A Dublin man convicted of violent disorder outside Annabel's nightclubat the Burlington Hotel in August 2000 has lodged an appeal against histwo-year sentence.

Lawyers for Sean Mackey (23), of Foxrock, Dublin, today lodged hisappeal against his sentence for violent disorder, imposed by JudgeMichael White earlier this month. No appeal was lodged against theconviction.

Mackey was also charged with the manslaughter of Brian Murphy followingan incident outside Annabel's night club in August 2000 but a jury atDublin Cicuit Criminal Court failed to agree on that charge. The DPPsaid later that he would not be seeking a retrial on the manslaughtercharge.

Mackey is the second person to lodge an appeal arising from the eventsoutside Annabel's. Lawyers for Desmond Ryan (23), of Cunningham Road,Dalkey, last week lodged papers for his appeal with the office of theCourt of Criminal Appeal.

Ryan was acquitted of the manslaughter of Mr Murphy but was convicted of violent disorder. He was jailed for nine months which sentence wasdeferred to May 31st by Judge White to allow Ryan take his finalexaminations in Agricultural Science at University College Dublin.
