The plane crashed in heavy fog just before landing.

The updated death toll was given by Luxembourg Interior MinisterMichel Wolter some six hours after the twin-engined Luxair Fokker-50aircraft, carrying 19 passengers and three crew, slammed into afield in the final minutes of a morning flight from Berlin.

The 22 passengers and crew on board the plane included 15Germans, five Luxembourg nationals and two French citizens, addedTransport Minister Henri Grethen at a joint press conference.

The pilot, from Luxembourg, survived the crash, but thenationality of the other confirmed survivor was not given.

Police spokesman Mr Vic Reuter said the survivors were badly injured.

The plane crashed only 50 yards from the small village of Roodt-Syr, three miles from Findel airport, said government spokeswoman Ms Anne Weiler.

Prime Minster Jean-Claude Juncker immediately rushed to the scene of the accident.
