A chance trawl through his wine cellar led to Eamon Walsh, of the Old Dublin Restaurant, unearthing a rare bottle of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, 1966. What is a bottle like this worth today? In Singapore, it would likely be worth a king's ransom, for the 1966 Mouton is highly regarded by some commentators - "one of the best in the Medoc", writes David Peppercorn, and the prices eastern wine buffs have been paying for rare wines in recent years has been astronomical.
Rather than putting a price on it, or selling it out in the Orient, Mr Walsh has gamely hit upon the idea of holding a draw for the wine. Anyone who eats in The Old Dublin during September will have their name put into the draw, and at the end of the month a lucky winner will be announced. Which will be extremely good news for someone, and we would love to hear from the winner just how the wine has lasted - commentators suggest that the '66 should be drunk now.
