The Labour Relations Commission (LRC) has intervened in the row at the emergency department at the largest hospital in the midwest region where nurses are scheduled to hold a second work stoppage tomorrow.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) said today it had accepted an invited from the LRC to attend a conciliation hearing in the dispute at the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick which is over over-crowding at the unit.

However, the INMO said that at present industrial action was still scheduled to go ahead commencing at 8.30am tomorrow.

Under current plans members of the INMO and Siptu are expected to stop work at the emergency department between 8.30am and 12.30pm. The nurses staged a four -hour stoppage last Wednesday.

The INMO said that the action was over gross overcrowding and the consequent negative effect this was having on delivery of a satisfactory standard of nursing care in the emergency department and throughout the hospital.

Minister for Health James Reilly is awaiting a report on the problems at the unit at the Mid Western Regional
Hospital which has been drawn-up by the new special delivery unit in his department.
