Lorry driver killed in crash

Gardaí are investigating a road accident in which a man in his 40s died in Ballybay, Co Monaghan, early yesterday.

The man apparently lost control of the lorry he was driving, and hit a tree.

The crash occurred at about 3.15am. No other vehicle was involved.

The dead man was brought to Cavan general hospital where a postmortem took place.

His name has not yet been released.

A Garda press office spokesman said anyone with information about the incident should contact Carrickmackross Garda station at 042 966122.

Meanwhile, gardaí have named the man in his 20s who died when his motorcycle crashed at Slieverue, Co Kilkenny, on Sunday.

He was Stephen Byrne (19), from Peafield, Slieverue.

The incident occurred at about 3.55pm. No other vehicle was involved.
