Clare County Council has said that Loop Head lighthouse will be open to visitors each weekend in September. The 19th-century landmark was due to close next Monday after being open for the second consecutive summer.
The extension follows another successful season which looks set to surpass last summer’s opening by Clare County Council, Shannon Development, Loop Head Tourism and the Commissioners of Irish Lights.
The introduction of a new interpretative exhibition helped to sustain the success of the trial opening in 2011.
