Liverpool stunned Manchester United at Old Trafford tonight when an 85th minute goal from midfielder Danny Murphy gave the visiting side a 1-0 victory and broke the premiership leaders' eight-game winning streak.

Murphy collected a superb pass from England midfielder Steven Gerrard into the heart of the champions' penalty area and lifted the ball over goalkeeper Fabien Barthez.

United stayed top with 45 points from 24 games and Liverpool moved up to third behind Newcastle United with 43 points.

Clear chances were few and far between but United winger Ryan Giggs should have scored in the 16th minute when he hit a Liverpool half-clearance wide of the left post from 15 meters.
