A court has been told that a young girl's leukaemia condition cleared up following an accident in which she was badly hurt. Mr John Fox, counsel for Aoife Tiernan (7), of Millrace, Duleek, Co Meath, told Judge Jaqueline Linnane in Dublin Circuit Civil Court that Aoife's condition had "remarkably and ironically" cleared up since the accident.

Mr Fox said Aoife had been severely injured in a road traffic accident in September 1997 when she was five and being driven to Harcourt Street Hospital where she had been undergoing treatment for leukaemia.

She had suffered significant psychological reaction. Judge Linnane approved a settlement offer of £16,500 damages made on behalf of the defendant, Johnson and Perrott, Emmet Place, Cork, owners of the second vehicle in the crash.
