Leeds fans angry over stadium plans

Leeds United's fans have criticised the possibility of the club building a new stadium on an out-of-town site.

The club has proposed building a new ground or redeveloping Elland Road to meet the increased match-day demand.

Fans favour staying at the present ground and have called on chairman Peter Ridsdale and club owners Leeds Sporting to listen to their views.

"Our reaction is one of shock and surprise," Leeds United supporters club chairman Ray Fell said on hearing of a possible new ground.

"Elland Road is synonymous with Leeds United Football Club and it would be a great shame to throw away all that tradition. There needs to be a convincing argument as to why we have to move.

"The danger here is that a lot of supporters could lose the habit of attending games if they have to travel further afield," he said.
