Internet users in Laois shops the most on online marketplace eBay, a new survey revealed today.

The county spends more money on business, office and industrial goods, cars and even trucks than anyone else, according to the eBay survey.

Laois buys five times more office supplies than Dublin, despite having a mere fraction of the capital's population at just 67,000 people. Carlow came a close second and Wicklow third in the study, which was commissioned by the dedicated Irish eBay site, eBay.ie.

Managing director John McElligott said: "Laois has a strong record of buying and selling on eBay.ie; however, they surprised even us when they emerged as the winners of the eBay.ie All Ireland."

The study also revealed house-proud Carlow spends more on the home and collectibles categories than any other county, while Wicklow natives splash out more per capita on art and photography.

John McGahern's Leitrim is Ireland's literary backbone, spending more than twice the amount on books, comics and magazines than Wicklow and over seven times that of Offaly.

Cavan is worst for spoiling their kids, buying more toys and games than any other county, while Waterford comes out on top in the sporting category.

Kerry sells the most musical instruments, almost more than twice its closest rival Leitrim, while Cork sells the most mobile phones and Galway the largest amount of sporting goods.
