Galway Corporation has threatened to begin legal proceedings against 350 absentee landlords unless they register their private rented accommodation within the next three weeks.

Following an extensive investigation, the corporation has compiled a list of 350 landlords who have failed to register their properties as required by law. They could face fines of up to £1,000 if they fail to do so.

The Galway Housing Action group, which has campaigned for the registration of private rented accommodation for the past year, has welcomed the local authority's announcement that they must register within 21 days.
