Kohl returns to fundraising

Berlin - The former German chancellor, Dr Helmut Kohl, whose party is expected to be fined $3

Berlin - The former German chancellor, Dr Helmut Kohl, whose party is expected to be fined $3.2 million for accepting secret donations, yesterday confirmed that he was fundraising again - this time, to pay the fine. This time, officials of the Christian Democrat Union (CDU) said that they expected Dr Kohl to name his benefactors.

"It is hard to credit at this point what is actually happening here," said Mr Franz Muntefering, general secretary of the Social Democrats. "It's a return of the same old Kohl, thinking he can repair all the damage caused with money".
