Vienna - President Thomas Klestil told Austria's leaders yesterday to guard against xenophobia entering their political rhetoric at a disputed commemoration of Holocaust victims, from which members of the far-right Freedom Party stayed away.
The annual ceremony, marking the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp at Mauthausen, was due to be held in parliament, but Mr Klestil took over the event after opposition parties said they would not attend if the far-right gave an address, as planned.
