The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a further recall of infant formula produced by Nestlé over fears they could cause food poisoning.
The FSAI said it is notifying consumers of the “possible presence of cereulide in additional SMA infant formula and follow-on products, due to possible indirect distribution to Ireland from the UK”.
The food safety authority said the cereulide toxin may be pre-formed in a food and has a high point of resistance to heat. “Consumption of foods containing cereulide toxin can lead to nausea and severe vomiting. Symptoms can appear within five hours. The duration of illness is usually six to 24 hours.”
Among the products affected are: SMA Advanced Follow on Milk; SMA First Infant Milk; SMA Comfort; SMA First Infant Milk; SMA Little Steps First Infant Milk; SMA Alfamino; SMA Lactose Free; SMA Anti Reflux and SMA Gold Prem2. The full list of affected products, along with their batch code and expiry date, is available on the FSAI website and are as listed below:

In a statement, Nestle Ireland said that “out of an abundance of caution”, the recall notice in Ireland has been updated to include details of all batches recalled in the UK.
“While these batches may have reached the Irish market through indirect supply chains, the likelihood of these products being available on shelves is very low,” a spokesman said.
Many of the batch codes listed in the food alert are not typically sold in Ireland, and all products that are sold into the Northern Irish market by Nestlé UK includes ‘Not for EU’ label on the packaging.
People are advised not to feed the implicated batches to infants or young children.
Nestlé is advising its customers who have purchased any of these batches to contact it via the online form, by sharing a photograph of the product and the batch code or by calling its care line on 1800-931832.
Last week, the FSAI recalled specific batches of several of its SMA range of infant formulas and follow-on drinks, also due to the “potential presence” of cereulide.
