Tehran - Iran's new President Mohammad Khatami is negotiating behind closed doors on a compromise cabinet which could pass parliamentary approval with little opposition, diplomats said yesterday.

He has until August 18th to submit his cabinet to the Majlis or national assembly.

Conservatives are opposed to some possible candidates, including the UN ambassador, Mr Kamal Kharrazi, approached to become Foreign Minister. - (Reuter)
