There should be a major overhaul of the Junior Certificate examination, the president of the National Youth Council of Ireland has said. Mr James Doorley said the exam was an "academic straitjacket", containing the worst elements of the old Intermediate Certificate and not offering a broader approach to education. A recent report compiled by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment indicated the exam was not meeting its objectives.
