Judge calls claim over fall trivial

A judge has described a £30,000 damages claim for personal injuries as one of the most trivial complaints he had dealt with

A judge has described a £30,000 damages claim for personal injuries as one of the most trivial complaints he had dealt with. Judge James Carroll told Ms Bernadette Milne in the Circuit Civil Court yesterday he felt she had grossly exaggerated an injury to her neck following a fall in Fibber Magee's night club.

Ms Milne, Finglas, Dublin, said she slipped on a wet dance floor and hit her face against the floor. Two weeks later a doctor had extracted a small piece of glass from a wound.

Judge Carroll, awarding £1,500 damages against Murray Mac Ltd, trading as Fibber Magee's night club, Parnell Street, Dublin, ordered Ms Milne to meet the night club's costs above what it would have cost to defend her claim.
