London - Journalist Trevor Phillips (45) said yesterday he wanted to stand for mayor of London. Mr Phillips becomes the third candidate to openly declare, after Lord Archer and Labour MP Mr Ken Livingstone.

He told BBC1's Breakfast with Frost: "After 20 years of crusading for London as a reporter I think it's about time, instead of just telling politicians what to do, I would like to play a part in making it happen." Mr Phillips, who presents ITV's The London Programme, has campaigned for Labour.
