Cairo - An Egyptian court yesterday sentenced an opposition journalist to one month in prison and fined him £7,500 for libelling two senior press officials, court sources said.

The court said Mohammed Abu Liwaya, a journalist with the currently suspended Islamist paper al-Shaab, libelled Ibrahim Nafie, chairman of the Journalists' Syndicate, and its general secretary.
