Tokyo - Japan's embattled Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori today formally announced he would step down, the Chief Cabinet Secretary, Mr Yasuo Fukada, said. "I have made up my mind to step down as we need to deal with mounting domestic and international tasks under a new government," Mr Fukada quoted Mr Mori as saying. The announcement followed his Liberal Democratic Party's decision to have leadership elections.
