London - Britain has given Canada permission to charge a British citizen with involvement in the 1985 Air India bombing that killed 329 people, the British government announced yesterday.

The Home Secretary, Mr Jack Straw, gave Ottawa permission to bring fresh charges against Inderjit Singh Reyat before his 10-year prison sentence for another bombing expires on Friday, officials said. Reyat was extradited from Britain in 1989 to face trial for the bombing of Tokyo's Narita Airport which killed two baggage handlers on June 23rd, 1985, the same day as the mid-air explosion of the Air India aircraft off Ireland.
