Fredrik Jacobson's play-off victory in last week's Volvo Masters played an integral part of the Swede being named Asprey Golfer of the Month for October.

The award is Jacobson's second of the season, having also taken the plaudits in April. In a highly successful year, the 29-year-old became the first Swede to win three European Tour events in the same season. They were; the Omega Hong Kong Open and the Algarve Open de Portugal, followed by last week's win in Valderamma. He ended the season fourth on the order of merit.

"I have played in the Volvo Masters Andalucia since 2000 and it is a tournament I have always enjoyed so to win it is very special indeed," said Jacobson. "I had a good start to the year with two wins and then did well in the Majors too, but to finish off the year in style with a win like that is very pleasing."

Jacobsen was up against South African Ernie Els for the accolade, who won the Harry Vardon Trophy after topping the Volvo Order of Merit for the first time.
