London - The Labour mayoral hopeful, Ms Glenda Jackson, was last night preparing to make a statement on her campaign after a rival, Mr Trevor Phillips, stood down, increasing pressure on her to quit and leave Mr Frank Dobson in a straight fight with Mr Ken Livingstone.

Mr Phillips said he was abandoning his bid so he could become Mr Dobson's running mate and candidate for Deputy Mayor.
