A nine-year-old Palestinian girl was shot dead by fire from Israeli troops in the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Yunis, opposite the Gush Katif bloc of Jewish settlements, Palestinian security sources said.
Shortly beforehand, an Israeli military spokesman had said Palestinian militants were firing at an army post guarding the settlements and that soldiers had returned fire.
Earlier today, another Palestinian girl, 6, and an elderly man died of wounds sustained by Israeli fire in the Gaza Strip, hospital officials said.
The girl died of a head injury she had sustained on July 21 when the Israeli army made a brief incursion in the Zeitun neighborhood of Gaza City. The 63-year-old man died of wounds sustained on July 15 while attempting to cross the Netzarim military checkpoint, south of Gaza City, by foot.
