Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have blamed Israel for escalating violence in Palestinian territories and called for international intervention to protect the Palestinians.

The two Arab states called on Israel "to halt its inhuman acts against the Palestinians and toreturn to the negotiating table," in a joint statement issued during a visit to the UAE by EgyptianForeign Minister Amr Moussa.

The statement, signed by UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Hamdan bin Zaidal-Nahayan and carried by the official news agency WAM, also called on the world community tointervene urgently to protect the Palestinian people.

At least 376 Palestinians, 13 Israeli Arabs and 71 other Israelis have been killed in the Palestinianuprising against Israeli occupation which began last September.
