A survey of the policies of European companies has placed Ireland near the bottom of a league of environmental friendliness. But only three Irish businesses were surveyed.
The poll was carried out by Pinnacle, Europe, an international corporation of public relations firms, which questioned 42 companies in 12 European countries.
Companies in Switzerland and Sweden were most likely to have an environmental policy, while Ireland, the UK, and the Netherlands were least likely, according to the survey.
Two of the Irish firms undertook an annual environmental audit but none reported the results to shareholders. None of the firms had secured a recognised environmental certificate and none expected to get one within the next five years.
The Irish companies queried which were guaranteed anonymity - were clients of Pinnacle's Irish affiliate, McMahon Sheedy Communications Consultants.
