A woman has died after she was hit by a car in Co Kildare.

She was pronounced dead at the scene at Moyvalley at about 5.45pm on Wednesday, a Garda spokesman said.

The 29-year-old woman driver of the car was uninjured.

The remains of the woman who died were taken to the mortuary in Naas and a postmortem is due to take place on Thursday.

“Gardaí are still at scene which is down to one lane to facilitate a forensic collision examination motorists are asked to take alternative routes if possible,” the Garda spokesman said.

Witnesses are asked to contact Leixlip Garda station, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

The fatality was one of two on the roads yesterday. A male pedestrian in his 60s died when he was struck by a car on the Clonard to Kilcock road in Co Meath at 7pm on Wednesday.

The two fatalities bring the total number of deaths on the State’s roads this year to 183.
