Two die in separate road incidents in Dublin and Kilkenny

Gardaí also appeal for witnesses after man collapses and dies on Westland Row

A man aged in his 20s has died after he was hit by a car on the Naas road near Newlands Cross on Sunday morning.

In a seperate incident, a woman (61) died when the car she was driving was involved in a collision with another vehicle in Co Kilkenny.

The road at Newland’s cross was closed for some time following the death of the young man and diversions were put in place. It has since reopened.

The fatal crash in Co Kilkenny occured at about 7.45pm on Saturday evening when two cars collided at Carrigunura, Slieverua on the New Ross to Waterford road.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was brought to Waterford University Hospital. The driver of the second car, a man, was also brought to the hospital with minor injuries.

The scene was expected to remain closed until midday Sunday.

Meanwhile, gardaí have also appealed for witnesses after the sudden death of a man on Westland Row in Dublin city.

At about 7.30am on Sunday the man, aged in his late 30s, wearing an orange jacket, was found collapsed on Westland Row. He had been walking up the street towards Lincoln Place and collapsed on to the roadway.

A passing motorist stopped and gave first aid and CPR. The man was brought to St James’s Hospital but later died. A post mortem is scheduled to be conducted tomorrow.

There were a number of people on the street at that time and gardaí said they are seeking their assistance in relation to the incident. Gardai in Pearse Street have asked anybody who may have been on Westland Row between 7.25am and 7.45am on Sunday and witnessed this man or who can assist with the investigation to contact them on 01- 6669000.
