Two parents received “the perfect present” on Christmas Day this year as they welcomed the arrival of their baby at the Rotunda maternity hospital.
Aoife McCormack gave birth to a baby girl at the busiest maternity hospital in the country, the Rotunda hospital in Dublin, in the early hours of Christmas Day this year.
The baby girl was the hospital’s first 2021 Christmas Day baby, born at 02.48am on Saturday morning.
Aoife and Gary McCormack’s baby girl weighed 3.2 kg (7.13 pounds). The couple dressed their newborn in a baby grow that read “the perfect present” for the occasion.

In a statement, the Rotunda said the baby’s name and hometown was not given as per family request.
Meanwhile, there were 24 babies born on Christmas Day at the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin. A spokeswoman for the hospital told The Irish Times that 16 babies were born between midnight and midday at the hospital this year.
It was a “very busy twelve hours”, she said.
The first baby, a girl, was born to mother Roxanne O’Sullivan at 01.03am on Christmas Day, she said.
A baby boy followed, born at 03.30am.
