Teenager killed in single-vehicle crash in Co Galway

Five other people in car hospitalised with injuries described as not life-threatening

A man aged 19 has died in a single-vehicle road incident overnight in Co Galway.

The man was fatally injured when the car in which he was a passenger left the road at about 2am. The incident happened on the R344 Inagh Road, connecting the Galway to Clifden Road (N59) and Kylemore.

Five other people in the car at the time were taken to University College Hospital Galway with injuries described as not life-threatening.

The 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was also removed to UCHG.

The R344 was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and motorists were asked to use the N59 into Clifden.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact Clifden Garda station on 095-22500, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
