RTÉ broadcaster Séamus Mac Géidigh dies suddenly

Broadcaster Séamus Mac Géidigh, who commented on last Saturday's Donegal-Monaghan GAA SFC semi-final replay and the Ireland-Belgium match in Bordeaux at the Euro 2016 championships, has died suddenly .

The 54-year-old was manager of RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta's northwest service at Derrybeg, Co Donegal. He died on Monday evening.

He worked with Raidió na Gaeltachta since 1988 and was appointed manager of the northwest service in 2004.

His passion for Gaelic football earned him the title of the “Donegal voice of Gaelic games commentary” in broadcasting circles.

He is survived by his wife Dolores and three children.

Kevin Bakhurst, RTÉ acting director general, said: "I'm deeply saddened to hear the news of Séamus's death.

“He was a highly respected journalist and broadcaster and will be greatly missed by colleagues across the organisation.

“My thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this time.”
