A 45-year-old pedestrian has died following a crash in Co Westmeath early this morning.

The man was struck by a car at Newcastle, Rochfortbridge at around 1.20am.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road is closed this morning to facilitate an examination by the Garda Forensic unit.
