Motorcyclist in his 50s killed in crash in Co Louth

Driver of car involved not injured in collision on N2 shortly after 12.30pm

A man was killed in a traffic collision in Co Louth involving a motorcycle and a car on Sunday afternoon.

The collision took place on the N2 at the Philipstown junction shortly after 12.30pm. The motorcyclist, who was in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda.

The driver of the car was not injured in the crash.

Gardaí attended the scene of the collision, and the stretch of road between Collon and Ardee was closed to allow for a technical examination of the scene by Garda forensic collision investigators, with local traffic diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who might have camera or dash-cam footage to contact them.
