He said: “I was driving through this area early this morning and saw at first hand the difficult driving conditions with dense fog - and it is very sad that another life has been lost on our roads.

“I wish to extend my sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased.”

So far this year, 10 people have been killed on the roads in Northern Ireland - one less than for the same period last year.

A total of 79 fatalities were recorded during 2013/14 which was an increase of seven on the previous 12 months.

A spokeswoman for the PSNI said officers were appealing for anyone who was travelling on the A4 Belfast Road and who may have seen the incident to contact them at Enniskillen police station.
