Claire Grady has been appointed editor of the Irish Independent, the Independent News & Media group announced tonight.
Ian Mallon has been appointed to the new role of head of news across the company’s three major print titles - the Irish Independent, the Sunday Independent and the Herald, and of digital.
Both will report to IN&M editor-in-chief Stephen Rae.
“We are delighted to make these two major appointments at Independent Newspapers today as part of our strategy to build a digital-first, seven-day newsroom,” said Mr Rae.
“They will be integral to the continued growth of our market-leading newspapers and websites,” he said.
“Claire is the first woman editor of the Irish Independent and previously served as a news editor of the Irish Independent before becoming opinion editor, executive editor and then editor on the Herald.”
Mr Rae said Ian Mallon had shown dynamism in leading teams of journalists on the Irish Independent and earlier on the Herald.
