The Republic of Ireland will play a friendly against Croatia at Lansdowne Road on August 15th as part of preparations for their remaining World Cup qualifiers against Holland and Cyprus.

Coach Mick McCarthy last week turned down an offer from Italy to play a friendly in September as he felt the date was too close to the clash with the Dutch, although Ireland may play the Italians at a later date.

Croatia are ranked 19th in the latest FIFA rankings, with the Republic in 27th spot.
