INVESTIGATORS from the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications yesterday examined the scene where the pilot of a small aircraft was killed when it went down near Drumsna, Co Leitrim, on Sunday evening.
Mr Oliver Bruton (54), a married man with five children, from Ballynacarrigy near Mullingar, Co Westmeath, was an aircraft mechanic and worked at a small airfield at Abbeyshrule in, Longford, according to gardai.
The aircraft is believed to have collided with lowtension electricity wires. Mr Bruton, who was understood to be flying home when the accident occurred, was pronounced dead at the scene. Earlier he had taken part with a number of other small aircraft in an air display, which was part of an annual bank holiday festival in Carrick on Shannon.
A post mortem was due to be carried out in Roscommon County Hospital yesterday.
