A 16-year-old Cavan town youth was further remanded in custody at Clones District Court yesterday on charges related to the death of a 70-year-old after the judge was told there had been serious intimidation of witnesses in the case.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was one of a number of locals arrested in connection with the death of Mr Patrick Jackson in Clones on May 12th after he had been set upon by a number of youths.

Objecting to bail, Supt Jack O'Connor told the court that more serious charges may be preferred against the youth later. Supt O'Connor said there was serious level of intimidation of witnesses even as late as Tuesday night. The youth's solicitor denied his client had knowledge of any intimidation.
