Interpol delivered a global "Orange Notice" alert today against Libyan leader Muammar Gadafy and 15 members of his inner circle to help police around the world enforce UN sanctions.

The Paris-based international police agency said information on Col Gadafy and the other Libyan nationals would be circulated so that border agents could comply with travel bans and asset freezes set out under United Nations Security Council sanctions imposed at the weekend.

"The individuals subject to the Orange Notice have been identified as being involved in or complicit in planning attacks, including aerial bombardments, on civilian populations," Interpol said.

Interpol's orange or red notices are not arrest warrants in themselves but are issued to help countries track down illegal assets or suspects wanted for extradition.
