Insurance company Royal Sun & Alliance has today confirmed that it will conduct a review of employees' adherence to company policy following the discovery of email abuse at its Liverpool office.

Mr Patrick Nally, spokesman for the company, declined to specify the nature of the "abuse", but told ireland.comtoday that Royal Sun & Alliance had a "very clear policy" regarding company email.

He said the company aspired to the "highest moral and ethical standards at work".

Mr Nally said the purpose of the Irish review which was "kick-started" by the recent investigation at the company's Liverpool office, was to ensure company policy was upheld in Dublin.

Should employees ignore company policy in this area, they may face disciplinary action, he added.

Mr Nally said the company had no intention of invading employee privacy by monitoring email usage, but would instead discuss and re-affirm the company's stance on the issue with employees.
