London - The British Director of Public Prosecutions, Dame Barbara Mills, last night set up an urgent inquiry into the Crown Prosecution Service's handling of serious complaints against police which do not result in prosecution.

The inquiry will also consider the particular handling of two deaths in police custody, after judicial reviews this week quashed the CPS decision not to prosecute police officers in connection with the cases. - (PA)
