A Garda murder investigation is ongoing into the death of a man (21) who was discovered severely beaten in Dublin city, an inquest heard today.

Eddie McCabe, a father-of-one from Rafters Lane in Drimnagh, died in St James's Hospital on December 8th last - a week after he was found badly beaten in a laneway off Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore, on December 1st.

A postmortem by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy found he died from a penetrating injury to the head.

Insp Gabriel O'Gara was granted an adjournment of the inquest until July 13th by Dublin City Coroner Dr Brian Farrell.

Mr McCabe was discovered around 10pm on Friday, December 1st. He was seen in the Drimnagh area and later in the Dolphins Barn area of the city during the evening.

Over 11 years ago, his father, also called Eddie McCabe, was found shot dead at Cheeverstown Road in Tallaght.
