Man jailed for 12 years for assault in which victim lost foot
A Dublin man has been jailed for 12 years for assaulting his ex-girlfriend’s employer causing the victim to lose a foot.
Joseph Cullen (42) beat the man and chased him in a car from his former partner’s home. The victim, a managing director of the former girlfriend’s company, later lost his foot as a result of being run over by a car in which Cullen was a passenger.
Cullen claimed he arrived at the house and saw Jackie White and her employer kissing but denied assaulting him.
High Court orders release of landlord
The president of the High Court has ordered the release from prison of a landlord and former garda jailed last week over his “flagrant breach” of undertakings to the High Court concerning a property owned by him at Cabra Park, Dublin, and deemed a fire risk by Dublin City Council.
Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns, after being told yesterday the premises has been vacated, said he was satisfied Kevin Galvin had purged his contempt.
Orders to facilitate Drumm house sale
A number of orders made by the High Court are expected to help clear the way for the sale of the home of former Anglo Irish Bank chief executive David Drumm in Malahide by the US official administering his bankruptcy.
Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne made formal orders yesterday arising from her decision last week that the Irish courts would formally recognise the US bankruptcy proceedings and assist the US trustee.
On the application of Bernard Dunleavy, the judge made an order that Mr Drumm’s interest in his former family home at Abington, Malahide, said to have a value of €1.2 million, is vested in the trustee.
