Source of Border fish kill traced

Inland Fisheries officers said yesterday that the source of a major fish kill at a Louth-Armagh cross-Border river had been traced, and a further threat to fish life in the area removed.

Hundreds of fish were discovered dead along a stretch of the Kilcurry river in Co Louth and officials traced the pollution to another tributary of the stream at Mullaghbane near Forkhill, Co Armagh.

A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Environment Agency said it was now dealing with the matter and the situation was being "closely monitored to prevent any further threat to fish life".
