RTÉ presenter mugged in Dublin

A 21-year-old man accused of mugging an RTÉ presenter in Dublin was last night granted bail.

Dainus Grazulis was charged with robbing Anna Nolan. The presenter of the Afternoon Show, who came second in the first series of Big Brother, was attacked from behind while walking down Long Lane, off Clanbrassil Street, in Dublin in the early hours of Saturday.

At Dublin District Court Garda Stephen Walsh said he arrested Mr Grazulis in St James's hospital, Dublin.

The Lithuanian had been taken there for treatment after being caught by a member of the public.

The court heard that Mr Grazulis was a third-year degree student in Lithuania, who had arrived in Ireland about two months ago to join his sister.

His lawyer said he had never been in any trouble before and feared that a conviction would prevent him from working throughout Europe. Judge James Scally expressed concern about giving bail to Mr Grazulis as he has no ties to Ireland. However, he did so on condition that Mr Grazulis live with his sister, who is married and has been working here for 2 years.

Mr Grazulis is due to appear at Dublin District Court again on Friday, August 26th. - (PA)

Donegal water shortage warning

Donegal County Council has issued a water conservation warning in advance of the staging of the biggest tourism event to be staged in the county.

An estimated 200,000 people are expected to attend the Fleadh Ceoil in Letterkenny from August 26th-28th.

The council's director of water, environment and emergency services Jim Holohan said that rainfall during the month of July has been well below average, and this trend has continued into August.

"As a result, some of the lakes from which raw water is sourced for supply are at extremely low levels and this problem is being experienced countywide."

Mr Holohan said that the risk of water shortages remains "particularly high" at a time when there are many festivals, including the fleadh. He urged people to "refrain from washing cars and watering gardens".
