Irishman (72) drowns in boat accident
Cypriot police yesterday confirmed the death of an elderly Irishman who drowned after falling from his boat half a mile off the shore of Xira village close to the holiday resort of Ayia Napa.
Thomas Terence Roberts (72) was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital yesterday.
The other man in the boat who had also fallen into the water, David Parnell (54), escaped unharmed. Both men were living in Cyprus.
Man dies after being hit by van
Michael Moroney (19), Coolishal, Ballyduff Upper, Waterford, died yesterday morning after being hit by a van on the Model Farm Road, Carrigohane, Cork.
Meanwhile the 17-year-old youth who was killed on Thursday in Dublin has been named as Michael McConville, of Davitt Park, Ballybrack, Dublin. He died when the car he was driving hit a tree and a wall at Shanganagh Road, Shankill, at about 2.30am.
In Tipperary the two 17-year-olds who died on Thursday morning were David McNamara, of Knocka, Drom, Co Tipperary, and Colm Tierney, of Erril, Portlaoise, Co Laois.
They died after the car they were in collided with a vehicle on the main Templemore to Roscrea Road.
The cyclist who died in a road collision on Wednesday at Plasset Road, Limerick, was Nadia Lescuier (31), Perry Court, Limerick.
The collision between the cyclist and a truck happened at about 4.pm.
Attacked youth still serious
Gardaí in Blackrock are continuing to investigate an assault on a 17-year-old youth in Stillorgan, south Dublin, last week.
It is understood the young man, a student at Wesley College, is still in a serious condition and has been unable to give a statement to gardaí.
The incident happened at approximately 11pm on Friday, October 13th, when several youths were refused access to a party in a house on Stillorgan Grove.
A row broke out and it is understood the teenager was attacked.
