The death of a young staff member of the Oireachtas drew expressions of sympathy from the Government and Opposition sides of the House.

Mr Wayne O'Donnell, a service officer, was fatally injured in a road accident as he travelled home from work last Monday night. Expressing shock and sadness, Mr David Norris (Independent) asked that the sympathy of senators be conveyed to Mr O'Donnell's wife, Elizabeth.

The Leader of the Seanad, Mr Cassidy, said Mr O'Donnell had been a courteous servant of the Oireachtas. "He was a very impressive young man."

The Cathaoirleach, Mr Mullooly, said he also wished to be associated with the expressions of sympathy.
