Home ownership is becoming the preserve of the middle class, the Labour councillor for Crumlin-Kimmage, Dublin, Mr Eric Byrne, has said. He was commenting on figures published in the Annual Housing Statistic Bulletin for 1998, which show manual workers accounted for 23 per cent of those taking out mortgages last year.
