One of Derry's most historic buildings has been destroyed by fire tonight.

The fire at the Tillie and Henderson building on the junction of Craigavon Bridge and Abercorn Road was reported at just after 6 p.m. It is thought the fire was started deliberately.

The five-storey building, which was lying derelict, was once one of the largest shirt factories in Europe. In recent months there have been several fire outbreaks inside the building, all of them arson.

Six units of the Fire Service fought tonight's blaze.
