Helsinki - Eleven people died and 39 were injured when a fast train derailed in central Finland yesterday. The crash was one of the worst in Finland's history.
Railway officials said an engine and seven carriages jumped off tracks as the train approached a station in the town of Jyvaskyla. Mr Markku Mensala, an official in charge of the rescue operation, said on Finnish radio that the train, carrying about 500 people and running behind schedule, could have been going too fast.
